Yes. Please do not put a grill under a pop-up canopy. Not only can this damage your canopy, it can be illegal in some US counties.

The 6-foot clearance is indeed the distance from the bottom of the valance to the ground, at the sides of the canopy.

Awesome tent
Tent is great and as advertised. Carry bag handle tore off first time I tried to wheel it to tailgate spot. Needs to be a lot sturdier for this type of use.
