I have an atrium in the middle of my condo and have a problem with bird droppings on the vertical gutter to the drain. I want to put up something that deters the birds from flying in & sitting atop the gutter. I would like some cover that allows in light but prevents birds from flying in. Clear or White in color would be best. Your advice? I don't want to break the bank. Something of reasonable cost, that is not unsightly, and that will do the job. Thanks, Fred

For your needs I would recommend the tarp found here: https://www.ecanopy.com/ptm-tc0830.html.

What is the best material for long term sun resistance when it comes to mesh tarps?

Since mesh tarps will always be comprised of a breathable polypropylene material to purposefully allow some light to come through to prevent mold, choosing a mesh shade tarp may not be the best option if the goal is 100% UV protection. Most of the heavy duty and super heavy duty tarps will be thicker denier polyethylene, so this would be the better option to choose, depending on thickness.

What tarp type is recommend as a sun protection for a deck, mesh, or solid?

If you want to completely block the sun, I would go with the solid. If you want to block the sun, but want to still allow some light, I would go with mesh.

The mesh tarps in question would indeed be ideal when used as a pool covering as they are both breathable and heavy duty.
